Google rankings – I am now on page 2-3 of Google as a result of changing my site around – how can I get myself back up the page?
Fadi Shuman is the E-Commerce Director & Co-Founder of Pod1:
Firstly, don't panic. If at one point you had higher rankings, then there's no reason why you can't climb back to where you are with a bit of search engine optimisation (SEO).
There is no quick fire answer to help you but the fact is, more and more sites are getting online and it's getting harder to stay on top. So if you've just redesigned your website, it could be any number of reasons why the new site would have dropped rankings from keyword density, the technology used to build it (flash), number of pages etc.
Get in touch with a reputable SEO consultancy and I'm sure they'll be able to help! Good luck.

It is hard to say exactly what you need to do to reinstall your rankings without knowing what you did in your site update, why you changed it and whether you changed every page or just a few. However, Google does say that it may "drop" sites if they change substantially - generally a change of about 5-10% is considered fine and you will not see a fall in your ranks. However a change much more than that might be an indication that some large amount of data has been added/replaced and is needed to be reindexed/analysed.
During this reindexing, the search engine may not put your web site on the position that you have seen it earlier on. This is possibly viewed as a "site overhaul" by search engines and to maintain the quality of the SERP's they may drop your page for a very short time from the position. If you have improved your website and used the right Search Engine Optimisation techniques, then your ranking should improve, given time - don't panic!
