Blog: To Dip or Tie?

Dip dye a trend easily succumbed to.

Dip dye - a trend easily succumbed to.

Today I spent my lunch hour shopping. Yes, shopping - and I really shouldn't have. The problem with me and shops is that I just CAN'T leave empty handed.

Hence the "shouldn't enter in the first place". On this fateful expedition I added yet another dip-dyed piece to my wardrobe. I say another, as I've already succumbed to this trend.

Of course I can totally justify the purchase, as they are different colours - grey vs blue/purple, and totally different styles.

So why dip-dye? In my view it's all about the finished look. Dip-dye has an instantly summer edge to it. I think it has to do with the colours and the contrast.  It screams sun and fun!  I also love the way that the colors gradually intensify from dark to light.  It has this elegance and subtleness that tie dye simply can't have.

Tie dye, dip-dyes long lost relative has already had its heyday anyway, as most of us know, or experienced in the late 60's and early 70's.  It was worn by hippies everywhere (including my mum) and has really been and gone as "the thing".  As far as dip-dye goes, if celebrities - including Jessica Alba are wearing it, and it's featuring on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week.  It has to be a great thing!  Right?

So, what are my plans for tomorrow lunchtime? Well, to go for a walk around the park, and then have just one more look at the gorgeous dip-dyed dress I've seen at the mall.  I mean, it's just a quick look.  Isn't it?
