Most designers I know work in tunnel vision - they have to be focused and free of distractions to create a new collection. Of course most of them can't help worrying about their financial situation and how they are even going to keep going. Designers need support on so many different levels.
Vauxhall Fashion Scout recently had their first salon evening for the designers showing at their venue during London Fashion Week. Koodos.com chief executive Miriam Lahage was the guest speaker and she gave the designers a lot of insight to the business of fashion. She discussed topics like with the changing economy how can fashion survive, the relationship with buyers and developing a wholesale business. Miriam is constantly finding ways to support new designers: Koodos.com is featuring a special Vauxhall Fashion Scout boutique from September 8-29.
It's so important that businesses get behind designers so that the London fashion scene survives and makes it to the next season. Some might laugh at the idea that the London fashion scene could shrink to the point of becoming insignificant, but during the impending financial downturn that would be a dangerously complacent attitude to have...
