A transactional website for Primark

H&M and Zara have announced plans to retail online from next year. But what about Primark?

Will they be joining them, and more to the point, does anyone want them to? I think so yes.

Take a look at the search terms Google suggests when you start typing ‘Primark’ into the Google Toolbar, or the homepage – ‘primark online’ and ‘primark online shopping’ must be searched for quite a lot for Google to suggest them.

OK, so it’s not scientific but still indicative of demand – it’s likely those search terms are used a lot by customers who have shopped in store and (wrongly) assumed they could buy later online.

Primark giving its customers the choice to shop in store or online can only be a good thing. It also offers an opportunity to attract new customers; especially those who find the in store experience off putting.

The debate about whether value fashion can work online is old news. It does. Ask Asda, New Look and Peacocks.

Primark needs to join them online, offering its customers an online retail platform they deserve.

What do you think, should Primark join the rest of the high street online?

  • It would be popular-but from Primark's perspective it could a logistical nightmare. The returns queues in store are the longest I've ever seen, I once spent over an hour in one..! So imagine their return rates online. They'd also surely have to have a minimum order value to make it cost effective..
