Online Fashion 100: so far, mostly good

So last week I published Online Fashion 100, an eBook celebrating the inspirational, interesting and influential people in the online fashion industry.

The 100 individuals and duos were published online by The Independent, and the full eBook is now available from my website.

The response has been overwhelming. It’s been well received as a who’s who guide, and I am aware of a couple of people on the list who have been given work from it!

I’m getting through all the emails, so a big thank you to everyone that’s been in touch.

A handful - and I stress a handful – of people have questioned some of the names on the list, because they don’t work “directly” in fashion.

When I was compiling Online Fashion 100 I wanted to make sure everyone that had the ability to affect online fashion retail sales had a representative included.

Let me give you a couple of examples; We all know the power of the voucher code. In this economic climate shoppers are increasingly checking discount sites and forums to find codes before they buy.

That’s why Myvouchercode’s Mark Pearson and Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis deserve their place on the list.

And as for Brian Gaunt from the Home Delivery Network, he deserves his place as a representative of delivery couriers because their level of service affects the customer’s total experience of buying online.

As delivery networks open up more flexible and cost-effective options, online fashion stores will be able to offer customers new options, and creating more choice can only positively grow the market.

So yes, I would say they DO affect online fashion. They might not attend London Fashion Week, sip champagne at fashion parties or keep up with the latest trends but what they do affects how people shop for clothes online.

In a list of 100 it would be almost impossible to include every online store, every blogger, every voucher code site, every affiliate, every delivery network and every editor, but I would hope everyone in online fashion feels represented by the leader in their speciality.

  • What you did omit (outside of PayPal) were Payment Processors, most online retailers use PayPal as a add-on not as their main processor...
