Day 2 in the Big Somerset Hoose

Posted by:

11 October, 2010

London Fashion Week isn’t just about the big names, it is also a vital for younger smaller designers to network and get noticed by the industry. This year I popped down to check out the stands in Somerset House and as i wandered around, a few names caught my eye.

BolongaroTrevor

Already nominated for 2 awards this year (WGSN  & Drapers) this brand is massively on the up. One would expect no less from the original creative brains and founders of All Saints. Their S/S 2011 collection was a stunning medley of original prints and inspired Victoriana.

George Angelopoulos

George’s stunning modernist art-deco bags are made in Italy by artisans. Hugely passionate about his work, he explained the process in detail to me. A lot of work and devotion goes into giving his bags their wow factor.

Udon Choi

Udon’s  collection was incredible - tough, sexy and delicate all at once. I fell in love with the hanging dress - this talented designer is another one to watch and he also showed at the on/off schedule.

His collection was made in England.

Cecilie Bahnson

Another designer I’m a huge fan of. A RCA graduate with a feminine yet edgy sensibility. She harnesses that wonderful quirkiness that the Danish tend to have and infuses it into very wearable pieces. I’d love to see more of Cecilie’s vision.

My final stop was at the Pam Hogg show. Not exactly a new kid on the block and known for her outlandish designs, her collection surprised me with its accessibility. The show opened up with a topless androgynous looking Alice Dellal drumming like jungle babe. Those familiar with Pam’s work will know she errs on the side of glam rock, however the collection had just enough Ziggy Stardust to be wearable by most. Of course there were her trademark catsuits, but interspersed with modern day dresses and coats, that had her making tentative steps into the mainstream.
