Most people think someone in my position would find it easy to shop…. I wish it were true. I spend so much of my time in shops, thinking about shops, looking at my competitor’s shops, that when it comes to my free time, the last thing I want to do is go shopping. Update my winter wardrobe on the weekend? I’d rather eat last year’s coat! So a quick fire way to update my look at lunchtime and for less than a tenner, is more than welcome.
When Chanel used green on the nails of the models in the AW2009 show, it captured the imagination of the fashionatti. Of course it wasn’t any old green, it was Chanel ‘Jade’ green.
Must. Have. It. ensued and everyone went bonkers for this limited edition shade. Jade nails gave you instant fashion credibility and with a waiting list as long as your arm and pots selling for £75 or more on ebay, those who cared could gaze in awe at how got your hands on it (pardon the puns!)

It’s not just about the colour it’s the access dahling. Can’t afford designer clothes, find it hard to put outfits together, aah who cares - just get the nail varnish! Perfume used to be the entry level, now it’s a tiny pot of paint. The colour of your nails reveals more about you than ever: classic red, classic girl, French manicure…a little bit Essex, strange, muted pewter = uber- style maven living on the edge of the season. It doesn’t matter that, as my dad duly pointed out, I look like I’m suffering from a condition called cyanosis (which is essentially discoloration of the nails caused by lack of oxygen in your blood.) I’m currently wearing the latest AW10 shade, a wonderful, sagey grey colour called Sew Psyched and I’m psyched!
