The death of Alexander McQueen today, just as the international fashion weeks kick off, has rocked the fashion industry to the core.
He was arguably the greatest British designer of this generation, producing show-stopping collections season after season and lighting up the international fashion weeks with some of the most directional and creative designs and catwalk presentations the fashion world has ever seen.
His unconventional approach and controversial behaviour were as inspiring as his product and helped to turn his name into a formidable brand.
His talents were clear for all to see. An incredible vision coupled with exceptional pattern cutting skills put him a league above many of his counterparts, and he will be greatly missed by the industry – from high street retailers through to luxury buyers and fashion students, the next generation of greats.
The question now is what will happen to the Alexander McQueen brand without its heartbeat, the man himself.
His talent is irreplaceable but I for one hope his legacy will live on.
