Supporting the industry from within

Posted by:

15 June, 2010

Over the decades, the retail industry has shifted and transformed into it’s current guise. Nowadays, a feel of community is drifting over the retail industry, causing larger brands to begin to not only look after themselves but to look out for the people playing a smaller part within the sector.

This leaning towards supporting the industry from within is being lead by charitable organisation Retail Trust, a group that focuses directly on the people behind the businesses. They offer confidential support, free legal information, financial support, counselling and career development to anyone working in, or previously has worked in the retail industry. With £1 million worth of grants per year, they are able to sustain their established services and support the workers in whatever challenges they face.

Retail Trust are definitely not a faceless organisation, their website and accompanying blog, written by Chief Executive Nigel Rothband, allow them to achieve the supportive, approachable and friendly feel of community that they are promoting. Nigel encourages visitors to his blog, to get in touch through comments and emails to offer feedback, advice or just to share stories.

It is time for the retail industry to begin to take more notice of their employees, whether they are at the top or bottom of the career ladder. Retail Trust have begun to work closely with organisations in the retail sector to ensure that they are as committed to the well being of their employees as much as the charity is, to improve inter retail relations.

  • Katrina thank you for your article. Its suich a great help when writers like you help raise awareness of Retail Trust which enables more people to hear about the work we do.

As for Nigel's blog - glad you approve. He works very hard to keep it updated himself which can be unusual for CEOs.

Anyway thanks again on behalf of all at Retail Trust. Your support is greatly appreciated.

    All the best.
