A shop a day keeps the credit crunch away

A week of doing nothing over Christmas, combined with several hours of poring over piles of glossy magazines, got me thinking about a new year's resolution we can all keep – to carry on shopping.
 

This morning, Radio 4 ended a piece on the difficult financial times ahead with a resoundingly depressing message to keep your money in your pocket. So, in honour of loyal retail readers, this year I'll be spending every penny just to keep our economy afloat. Even if I have to do it alone, I'll damn well try.
 
If you can all join me in this mass spend, imagine what a good start to the year we'll have, and what positive headlines we could give you in the coming weeks. "Retailers ransacked by spending spree", or "Wholesalers struggle to keep shops stocked". Oh, the joy.
 
Any eco urges I have will be kept under wraps, and I will forge ahead with shopping of every type, from cheap tat to uber-expensive luxury. Every reason aside, at least it is a habit you can stick to, unlike that promise to kick the habit/get to the gym/ditch the sweets and live off only nuts and seeds.
