Milan fashion shows its adult side

Following the cornucopia of fresh prints, daring colourways and directional looks seen at LFW, Milan is showing a more adult theme as we reach the mid-point of the Italian fashion catwalks.

 

Christopher Bailey maintained his love affair with the trenchcoat in a Burberry Prorsum collection which fused feminine silhouettes in layers of ruching with studded belts and skirts indicative of what Lara Croft might wear on her day off.

While Giles Deacon adorned his models in floaty fairy-inspired creations in peach, baby pink and ivory on the London catwalks, Muiccia Prada visited the darker side of the enchanted forest in a collection of fern green, midnight blue and deep plum figure hugging dresses juxtaposed with clashing geometric print tights all set to a backdrop of creepy fairytale images projected onto the catwalk walls.

Lighter in shades yet still projecting a grown-up look was Bottega Veneta's collection of tailored basics in a variety of tonal neutrals which stood out simply for their air of elegance and perfectly cut lines.

Flying the flag for the younger end of the market were the hippy-preppy pieces from D&G, strong on floral chiffons and shirts layered under fine knit jumpers, and Pringle's silver imbued sportswear pieces with ultra short shorts, metallic bomber jackets and sequinned shifts.
