Harrods appoints former Gucci VP as chief executive

Harrods has appointed former Gucci vice president James McArthur as chief executive of the upmarket department store business.

McArthur was also director of strategy and acquisitions at the Gucci Group, as well as chief executive of Balenciaga, and interim chief executive at Yves Saint Laurent.

Harrods chairman Mohamed Al Fayed said: "We have the great fortune of having a well established and proven executive team including the current managing director Michael Ward. James will bring a complementary set of strategic and leadership skills to our overall group of businesses that will help us strengthen and propel the evolution of the organisation and its subsidiaries."
