Harrods staff threaten to strike over pay and holiday entitlements

Harrods, the upmarket London department store,is facing strike action in a row with some of its staff over pay.

Trade union Unite is to ballot more than 250 staff at Harrods if the upmarket department store does not improve a 3.5% pay offer and holiday entitlements.

The Times newspaper reported that Harrods' warehouse staff, drivers and engineers would be involved, which it said would cause serious disruption during the store's busiest time.

The ballot will end on August 18 with a strike the following week if there is a "yes" vote.

Unite said that some Harrods support staff were not given the same two days' extra holiday as shop floor workers.

A Harrods spokesman said that the retailer would not make an improved pay offer, and that a strike would not stop the store from trading.
