Luxury department store Harrods revealed group sales (including concessions) reached a record £688.3m, rising 13.4%, in the year to February 2, driven by instore investment.

Pre-tax profits soared 38% to £58.9m, according to accounts filed at companies house. Sales at Harrods (excluding concessions) rose 9% to £43 million for the year.

The retailer said the strong performance has been boosted by sustained investment in the store by Harrods and its partner brands. It refurbished a number or areas within the store during the year including designer kidswear, travel goods, soft accessories and womens shoes. It also opened a store at Heathrow's Terminal 5.
