Barratts, The Victoria Centre

KEY LOOKS: 6
Purple patent platform courts , sequined zebra stripe peep toes, black patent heels with elastic detail and black platform shoe boots bring glamour while biker boots and cowgirl boots serve the casual customer. Men get Jeffrey West inspired Chelsea boots, grey perforated leather lace ups and canvas pumps.

MERCHANDISE MIX: 6
Barratts still looks to be gunning too much for the young fashion market despite a shift in strategy to become a family store. In terms of a comfort proposition for the older customer, there is simply a wall of Hush Puppies rather than a spread of choice. There are wide fit options and size 9s though. 30% of the women's offer is boots

STORE APPEAL: 6
Interestingly this is the store with the least discounting during our tour which means the shopfloor is clear and tidy. However thre is work to be done on segmenting and flagging up the new Black Gardenia and Belle & Mimi sub-brands from the core Barratts range and a random Dolcis shoe adds to the confusion. It's unclear which audience each is serving.

VALUE FOR MONEY: 5
Barratts has done work on upping design content with the introduction of both printed and quilted linings in select styles which helps to raise it above the specialist annihilator Primark but we need to see more of this. Leather biker boots are £50 and dressy shoes like purple satin peep toes with a bow on the vamp are £30.
