Verdict: Setting trends and inspiring the high street, Kurt Geiger is the place to go for something different.

Looks - 9

Kurt Geiger's investment in its design team has paid off and the retailer is setting as many footwear trends as it is following. A tribal trend comes through on raffia wedges, clunky wooden constructions and gladiator sandals, while sports influences come via elastic-strap patent sandals.

There is a natural/nautical vibe in a rope detail story. There are also double step-in platforms and jewels set in wedge heels from Kurt Geiger Fashionistas. The strongest fashion story for men is the desert boot. Grey and navy also feature and men's patent sandals are on show.

Mix - 9

The women's branded buy appears to have shrunk back with just a couple of options from Chloe, occasion footwear from Gina and some key looks from Marc Jacobs, plus a casual vibe via a good spread of Chie Mihara and Ugg.

The Carvela and KG sub-brands get the most space and are given separate areas in store. Casual brand Solea has been tightened up and pushed to the back of the store. Brands such as Hugo Boss and H by Hudson are as important as own label in the men's department.

Store - 5

This is a large spacious unit but there is nothing groundbreaking in terms of store design, which perhaps needs to be looked at as Kurt Geiger stretches its premium positioning further each season.

Fortunately the large unit means there is plenty of space for the vast collection, and freestanding table units are well utilised to show off Kurt Geiger's top-end statement styles.

Value - 8

Kurt Geiger is another footwear retailer successfully commanding higher price tags because of added value through design content, but it needs to be careful not to push this too far too quickly, in case confusion creeps in.

Fashion-forward wedges kick in at £195 while Kurt Geiger mixed material sandals are £160 and KG has crept to £120 on wooden wedges. Carvela patent strap sandals are good value at £80 and buckle loafers are a healthy £65. Top price for men is a whopping £545 for navy suede brogues via an exclusive tie-up with Northamptonshire shoemaker Edward Green.
