Looks - 8Geisha girl platforms, gladiator sandals, chunky T-bar wedges, graduated patent courts, peep-toe shoe boots, sporty wedges, candy-coloured ballet pumps, star-print flats and canvas pumps reminiscent of French brand Bensimon. New Look has also tested the commerciality of wacky heels with a smattering of Perspex wedges, hollow wedge courts and black sculpted heels for the disco. | Mix - 7Casuals dominate but are split evenly between flats and heels/wedges. Like Primark, the men's offer is small but shoppers get the best interpretation of a Paul Smith trainer on the high street for just £12, which can't be bad. New Look also offers formal looks for women including select options suitable for work, although it's a tight range. But these were totally lacking at Primark directly across the road. |
Store - 5The London flagship looks disappointing and dated against New Look's newer regional flagships. The footwear department is cramped considering how many options there are, with space for just one person between shelving units. The yellow Perspex shelving still works though, while curved hanging units are a point of difference against value competitors and are well suited to this fashion environment. | Value - 6With Primark a stone's throw away New Look suddenly doesn't feel so cheap. Cork wedges are £20 against the £15 to £20 Primark offer. Prices seem to have crept up a touch on some styles, especially those with leather uppers. A leather clunky wooden platform is £35 while a peep-toe patchwork shoe boot is £40, though this does provide added design content. |
