John Lewis recorded its biggest-ever Saturday, outside of Clearance, last week as the effect of Black Friday helped to boost sales.
Sales on Saturday November 24 were up 24% compared to the same day the previous year while overall sales for the seven days to November 24 were up 11% year-on-year.
Womenswear had a good week with sales up by 6% driven largely by sales of outerwear while online sales were up 34.6% with over one million visitors to Johnlewis.com on Saturday and Sunday.
Store sales were also up, with 22 John Lewis branches trading ahead of the same week last year and Poole and Croydon enjoying particularly good performances, both up by 15%.
“I’d like to congratulate our branch teams for the effort they are putting into their My John Lewis best customer events this month, as we say thank you to such an important group of customers, and at the same time excite them with our Christmas offer,” said John Lewis buying and brand director Peter Ruis.
“With such positive sentiment around our brand, our proposition looking strong in shops and online, and our operations in good shape, we’ve great momentum going into the crucial final five weeks of Christmas trading. It’s all to play for.”
