Comment on: Debenhams extends Sale
Cheers Debenhams - I am sitting in a quiet independent being constantly asked when I am going to sale. I am sticking out until after Christmas no matter what Marks and Spencer et al do!

Comment on: Wolfson: 'It's a recession, not Armageddon'
Regarding Mr Wolfson's comments : Thank God there is a voice of reason in the midst of all this hysteria. We are all having a difficult time and, as an indepedent, it is so disappointing to see the knee-jerk reaction of the big hitters (Debenhams and the like) going to sale early. I am determined to hold off sale until after Christmas and prevent the assumption that there is no point in buying at full price for Christmas as it is going go to sale anyway. On the High Street every second person has a bulging Primark bag and I don't see them going to sale. If we are going to survive at all we must be confident that our clothes are worth the full price we are charging - or else we may as well all sell T-shirts at £2!

Comment on: Shepherdson unveils vision for Whistles
I am very surprised by the direction that Whistles is taking. I believe that the younger market they are targeting with the new collection are the ones who are still buying throw away fashion from Primark and the like. Whistles should retain its core client base - a slightly older, more sophisticated spender who would be happy with the edge of this new collection but not the shorter lines and wacky prints.

Comment on: Indies set for TV makeover
I was really disappointed by the first episode of this new series. Portas decided to spend half her time bitching behind the owner's back rather than concentrating on what we actually wanted to see - how to turn the business around. Please don't let this turn into another Big Brother/Apprentice bitchfest.

Comment on: Fashion insolvencies are at five-year high
As a brand new independent I am terrified by what is happening in the High Street. Insolvencies, early sales from the big boys and increases in online shopping are enough to make me call it a day after 10 months. The only thing that keeps me going is that April was my busiest month so far and sales are still strong. I'm convinced if you stock the right stuff they will buy!
