Pringle in Scottish factory review

Pringle could close Scottish factory

Pringle is understood to be in talks with British workers' union GMB over the possible closure of its factory in Hawick, Scotland.

The consultation process is likely to take about 30 days and could affect up to 80 jobs at the factory, which produces heavy knitwear for Pringle.

Other jobs located in Hawick, including those in Pringle's head office, financial division and customer relations department, are not expected to be affected.

Pringle chief executive Douglas Fang is reported to have said that ready-to-wear is an increasingly important part of the business, with less customer demand for heavy knitwear. "We are considering ways to improve the performance of the business and closure of the manufacturing operation at the plant is, very regrettably, something we must consider," he said.
