Footfall at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent rose 5.3% last week and over the bank holiday, compared to the same period last year.

Sales of holiday fashion and bikinis saw increases over the week. Bluewater management said that early reports from retailers showed many had had sales increases in line with the increased footfall.

Bluewater general manager Andrew Parkinson said: "Great weather for gardeners was great news for Bluewater this weekend. Sales of holiday fashion, bikinis and luggage all showed positive increases over the weekend.

"We also benefited from a strong advertising campaign and events programme, which was used by many of our retailers to launch their summer promotional activity. It is a challenging market so we need to innovate and maximise every opportunity."

we have been dead since the sun came out. The contrast in our weather in scotland is almost freaky, last week we still had winter coats on now its warmer than majorca. I think the punters are making the most of the good weather as it could be away tomorrow, its not concerning me too much though as they will return to the shops.

I have found trading in my store since the sun popped out over the Bank Holiday weekend to have really boomed - finally. It seems there might be some cash out there afterall despite the credit crunch and people being a bit more careful with their cash. What are others finding with the sun being out? Maybe we might have a good summer after all!
