Retail sales fell 0.2% in April

Retail sales in April dropped 0.2% compared to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.

However, this was driven mainly by a fall in sales at food and household goods retailers.

For the three months to April, the volume of sales at mainly non-food retailers were up 1.7% compared to the previous three month period.

The average weekly value of retail sales in April was up 1.9% compared to April last year, and the value of sales at mainly non-food retailers was 2.8% higher in the period from February to April.
