JD Sports is understood to be close to acquiring London-based sneaker specialist Foot Patrol.

A deal was though to be imminent as Drapers went to press. JD Sports is believed to be determined to get hold of the Foot Patrol brand name, which it believes will complement Size?, its premium sports fashion and footwear concept, and provide it with access to top-tier product from the sports brands.

Foot Patrol, which was a magnet for sneaker fans, closed its Soho shop in London at the end of March because of rising rents.
The store was opened in 2002 by Simon Porter and Michael Kopelmann to provide a streamlined selection of niche sneakers, with fewer than 50 styles on offer.

It evolved into one of thebest-known trainer shops in Europe and the owners worked directly with major sports brands on high-end product, securing UK exclusivity on several styles.

Porter declined to comment.
