Department store Selfridges launched a pop-up shop to celebrate timeless style in its London flagship today.
The Forever Shop will stay open until August 15 and has been launched with the aim of promoting timeless classics with enduring appeal, as an antidote to the culture of fast fashion.
The collections in the pop-up-shop, in Selfridges’ London’s Wonder Room display space, have been curated by Selfridges creative director Alannah Weston, designer Sir Paul Smith and Elle Decoration editor-in-chief Michelle Ogundehin. Each has selected a range of timeless items and collectables.
Weston chose a collection of pieces that define and transcend fashion eras including a pair of Dr Martens classic black eight-hole boots, Converse All Stars white plimsolls, a Hermès silk scarf, a Rick Owens leather jacket, a Burberry classic trench, a pair of Levis 501s, and an Alexander McQueen black silk skull scarf.
Smith chose his top ten books, which include Christian Dior: The Man Who Made the World Look New, by Marie France Pochna and Yves Saint-Laurent: A Biography by Alice Rawsthorn.
Ogundehin selected modern design icons including a Tom Dixon Mirror Ball light and a Mont Blanc Meisterstück Classique fountain pen.
An exhibition of photography from New York artist Ari Seth Cohen is also on display in the space. He has photographed creatively dressed older shoppers in store and on the streets of London.
