Positive mood at Harrogate lingerie show

...

Exhibitors were full of optimism at the Harrogate Lingerie and Swimwear Exhibition this week, despite independent buyers' plans to streamline their offers for spring 08.

Igor Pacemski, creative director at lingerie brands Yes Master and Indulge, said the show was one of the most buoyant he had visited. "We took 12 orders on Sunday and I have 10 appointments today," he said.

But he added that buyers were becoming more "savvy". "They're spending just as much, but buying more with one brand and dropping labels that aren't working for them," he said.

Yvonne Dillon, owner of Essentials in Preston, Lancashire, said she would be cautious with her buying. "We're now buying more in-depth, having doubled our orders with Moontide, for example. We'll probably drop a few brands but our budgets will stay the same."

Organiser Brintex said about 520 people had attended the show by lunchtime on the first day, compared with a total of 600 who visited on the first day of last autumn's edition.
