John Lewis boosted by menswear

A strong performance on menswear helped sales at John Lewis climb 1.8% for the week to November 10. 

Menswear, leisure and beauty sales at John Lewis were up 4.8% over the week, with branded men's casualwear the star performer. However womenswear sales were static, while childrenswear, toys and crafts sales were down 0.3%.

The department store group said that colder weather during the week had boosted clothing sales, and that trading on Saturday November 10 was 4.3% ahead of the previous year.

John lewis said its new branch in Cambridge, which opened during the week, had traded "well above the most optimistic of forecasts from opening day". Cambridge ranked as the 7th top performing store on Saturday November 10.

John Lewis sales for the year to November 10 were 2.3% ahead.
