Hobbs has appointed Sandy Verdon as creative director.

Verdon joins from Jaeger where she spend eight years heading up the creative and design teams. She replaces Karl Henry who is retiring in early 2008 after 18 years with Hobbs.

Verdon's first collection for Hobbs will be for spring 09.

Verdon said: "I have long been an admirer of Hobbs and have watched with interest as it has expanded into becoming one of the UK's best-loved brands. I am delighted to be joining at this exciting time in the group's development and I look forward to working with the Hobbs design team to create our first collection together."

Chief executive Nick Samuel added: "Naturally we are sorry Karl is leaving us as he has made such an important contribution to the success of the company. We are very pleased that Sandy is joining us as creative director and we believe she will be an excellent successor to Karl. Sandy provides a wealth of experience and her knowledge and energy will contribute to Hobbs' development as an international fashion brand."

Verdon has also held senior positions at Courtaulds and French Connection.
