There is speculation over Dolcis' future

Footwear chain Dolcis has unexpectedly paid its staff to the end of the week, according to The Independent newspaper.

The move has sparked further speculation over the future of the business, which has been building since the chain's private equity backers Epic pulled out earlier this month.

Dolcis has unexpectedly paid staff up to January 19, according to the newspaper, prompting speculation that the company is due to announce details of its problems.

The company has been looking for a new partner to secure further backing for the 70-store chain, however no deal has yet been announced.

Scottish entrepreneur John Kinnaird bought Dolcis from Alexon for £2.7m in 2006.
