Marks & Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose was awarded a knighthood in the Queen's New Year Honours list, while River Island managing director Richard Bradbury and Oasis founder Maurice Bennett were honoured with CBEs.
Rose was given the knighthood for his services to retail and corporate social responsibility. Since 2004 when Rose was parachuted in as chief executive of M&S to defend a bid from Sir Philip Green, he has implemented a massive recovery plan at the retailer. He also launched Plan A, which aims to make the M&S business more eco-friendly.
Karen Millen and Jasper Conran were also awarded OBEs.
