H&M has promoted Ann-Sofie Johansson to head of design, replacing Margareta van den Bosch, who will move into semi-retirement this spring.
Johansson, who is currently head of womenswear at H&M, has been with the Swedish business since 1987.
Van den Bosch played a crucial role in setting up the company's collaborations with designers Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Roberto Cavalli. She is expected to stay at H&M as part-time special adviser.
Meanwhile, H&M will double its usage of organic cotton in its spring 08 collection to 1,500 tonnes.
