Laura Ashley, which owns a 5.4% stake in Moss Bros, has been approached by another shareholder in the menswear chain to launch a counter-bid to Baugur's £40 million offer, according to reports.
Fashion and homewares retailer Laura Ashley, which is controlled by Malaysia's MUI Group, is understood to oppose Baugur's 42p-a-share cash offer.
It has been approached by a menswear trade insider, who has an estimated 4% stake in Moss Bros, about backing a rival bid, according to reports.
The report comes as speculation grows about other potential bidders for the menswear chain.
A Laura Ashley spokeswoman said: "Laura Ashley is holding a stake in Moss Bros as an investment position."
