Exhibitors were in positive mood as Bread & Butter Barcelona opened its doors this morning.
A surge of visitors descened on Bread & Butter's show halls this morning in spite of the tough economic climate plaguing the retail sector.
Although some indies have cut back budgets ahead of spring 09, Bread & Butter is expected to retain its title for the must visit show for young fashion retailers this season.
Jag Dahmi, international sales manager at Penfield, was extremely positive about attendance levels. He said: "A lot of customers are coming to this show. They may not be going to as many shows as previous seasons, but I am expecting this one to be well attended and the one that most want to come to."
Getting into the show was much slicker this season, with queueing time minimal. The weather was already sweltering at 10am but buyers were pressing ahead with trend scouting and the likes of Brit-hit Gio-Goi was already teeming with visitors.
As the music from the G-Star catwalk tent kicked in, the queue for its first show of the day was already building. The roller girls on the outdoor Wrangler stand and breakdancers at the entrance to the Sport and Street hall are already in full acrobatic swing.
The Denim hall feels, cleaner, brighter and more roomy this season and the ground floor of Sport and Street has been expanded with more brands including Love Your Enemy and Karl Kani joining regulars like Reebok on the basement level.
