Retail sales growth slows says ONS

Retail sales volumes dropped 3.9% in June against May, and sales volumes in non-food retail dropped by 4.5% according to the Office of National Statistics.

The ONS said that sales volumes grew by 0.6% in the three months to June compared with the previous three months.

Sales volumes at non-food stores grew by 1.1% for the three month period.

However the value of retail sales for the three months to June was 3.8% higher against the same period last year. The average weekly value of sales in June was £5.1 billion, 3.4% higher than in June 2007.
