Terry Green, Tesco's chief executive of UK clothing and hardlines, has hit back at claims that rival George at Asda has overtaken the supermarket as the UK's third largest clothing retailer by volume.
Green said Tesco's clothing was performing well and that it would maintain its third-place spot behind Marks & Spencer and Primark over the full year.
Earlier this week the latest three-month TNS FashionTrak market share data was leaked and appeared to show that George had overtaken Tesco during the summer. But Green said: "Let's wait for the 52-week figures. I'm not worried."
In March, George managing director Anthony Thompson vowed to knock Tesco off its perch as the number one supermarket by market share for clothing by the end of the year.
This week, Tesco is offering 25% off knitwear and £10 off women's coats.
