Stella McCartney breaks through £1m profit barrier

Stella McCartney, the fashion house owned by Stella McCartney and fashion giant Gucci, posted pre-tax profit of £1.1m over the year to December 2007, on sales of £11m.

Sales rose over the period to £11m against £9m the year before, while pre-tax profit grew from £180,000 to £1.1m.

According to accounts filed with Companies House, directors of the business, including McCartney, are "delighted" with the progress the company continues to make.

The accounts cover the brand's UK retail business and a directors statement said: "In the current macro economic environment which is likely to affect our customers propensity to spend, management feels there are significant opportunities to increase performance through continued leverage of the existing assets of people, brand, products, range and clients."

The business was established in April 2001 with its first ready-to-wear collection unveiled in the following October.
