Argentina’s La Martina brings polo styling to UK

Argentinian casualwear brand La Martina is plotting a major UK push for spring 09.

The polo-inspired range, now in its third season with agent Bond Street Agencies, was initially introduced to 10 accounts by the agency in spring 08. It will now be rolled out to between 30 and 40 accounts.

Bond Street Agencies’ director Chris Rosam said: “The La Martina collection has sold well in its first season and key accounts include Harrods and Trotter & Dean in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.”

La Martina makes the kit for the England polo team, and its offer focuses on colourful polo shirts with appliqué detailing. The complete collection includes trousers, knits and jackets.

There are two ranges – a basics line called Clubhouse, with polos retailing for £60 and shirts at £85; and a mainline, which includes replica kit and has polo shirts selling at £85 and shirts for £170, all selling with a 2.7 stockist margin.

Bond Street Agencies is also introducing Jaggy to the UK for the first time for spring 09. The brand’s collection has been created by Italian textiles research laboratory Batrax.

Rosam said: “It has a strong trouser collection including a style called the McQueen that comes in 15 fabrics and 25 colours.”
