Exclusive: First store for Cambridge Satchel Co

Leather bag brand The Cambridge Satchel Company is opening its first standalone store, in central London.

The 583 sq ft shop, on Shorts Gardens in Covent Garden, will open in two phases, with the first 40% being unveiled as a pop-up “teaser” on December 8 in time for Christmas.

The rest of the store, which will include a dedicated meeting space for fashion bloggers, will open during London Fashion Week in February.

Cambridge Satchel Company, which was founded by Julie Deane in 2008, has until now only been available via its website and through selected wholesale stockists, including department store Harrods and etailer Asos.

However, Deane said she felt the time was right for the brand to have its own retail presence.

“We want the shop to give both our consumers and wholesale customers a window to the brand,” she said.

Deane said she wanted the store to include a meeting place for bloggers because the community had been so instrumental in the brand’s success.

  • This is the kind of start up success story that reminds me what I love about the retail industry. Nice to see Julie Deane picking up an awards at the Drapers Fashion Awards.
