Littlewoods Shop Direct Group is to buy the Empire Stores name, its customer database and its debtor book as at the end of the current season's catalogue.
Littlewoods said it anticipated it would take ownership of the debtor book in July 2008 and that it would purchase the Empire Stores name and database subject to regulatory clearance.
Empire Stores owner Redcats Group announced it would close the company down earlier this month with the loss of up to 850 jobs. However the Littlewoods deal is unlikely to save any jobs.
