Bread & Butter attendance rockets

B&B was surprisingly upbeat last week

Last week's Bread & Butter Barcelona saw visitor numbers jump by 20% against the January show in 2007.

The show, which took place from January 16-18, attracted more than 99,500 visitors who came to stake out 945 new exhibitors as well as to catch up with existing suppliers and hunt for inspiration to take back to their stores.

Strong attendance surprised UK exhibitors who expected visitors to fall back given the difficult trading conditions in recent months.

Visitor growth was also up against the busy summer season. Numbers increased by 9% against the spring 08 show which took place last July.

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going!" and those of us who went to Barcelona last week have returned feeling positive and energised that there is life in the industry yet. From an independents point of view, although the trip is costly, its no more expensive than London and it puts any UK show to shame. The denim hall takes off from where 40 Degrees left it, and the addition of the Superior and Fashion Halls made the trip, for me, the best show in Europe - I've done the majority of them and believe me, none of them match B&B for giving you the passion which this industry should and used to be all about. Its a great show, not to be missed.
