Jaeger owner Harold Tillman has been appointed chairman of the alumni board of the University of the Arts in London.

Tillman, who will take over from Marks & Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose as chairman of the British Fashion Council later this month, is to chair the alumni board of the University of the Arts. The University of the Arts is made up of six colleges in London, including the famous fashion design schools London College of Fashion and Central St Martins.

Tillman is on a recruitment drive to strengthen the alumni board - a new initiative at the university - and will hold an event tonight with key alumni members from the colleges in a bid to recruit board members.

GQ editor Dylan Jones is already on the board. College alumnis include Stella McCartney and Jarvis Cocker.

Tillman said: "My role will be to bang the drum about what we do on an international level."
