Contemporary fashion independent Duncans is to ditch  menswear to capitalise on its growing womenswear business.

The store, in Preston in Lancashire, began life as a menswear business more than 30 years ago, selling brands such as Marc O'Polo and Matinique. However, the 880sq ft ground floor menswear space will be converted to womenswear in January next year.

Duncans started selling womenswear seven years ago, and co-owner Elizabeth Duncan James said menswear sales were static. "Womenswear sales are up 20% on last year," she added.

The store's womenswear brands include Sandwich, Marc O'Polo, Stills and InWear.  Duncan James added: "We'll look to add a few new labels."
