Christmas berets have boosted trade at John lewis so far this week

Sales at John Lewis stores for the four days to Wednesday December 5 are up 6% on last year and 15% on the same four days last week.

Director of retail operations Patrick Lewis said that Christmas gift buying was reaching its peak both in store and in the mail order business.

Scarf sales were up 13%, casual hats up 31%, with berets a best seller. Occasion footwear was up 116%.

For the week ending December 1, sales were up 4.5% across John Lewis stores, with 13 shops posting a sales increase.
