Sales dip in run up to Christmas

Retail sales volumes fell 0.1% last month, with textile, clothing and footwear stores suffering the worst decrease at 0.5%, according to the Office of National Statistics.
The volume of textiles, clothing and footwear sales grew 2.3% for the three months to October, compared to the previous three months. Total sales volume increased by 1.4% over the period.
The value of textile, clothing and footwear sales increased by just 1.2%, the smallest increase in the sector since March 2006.
Total sales value was 3.7% higher than in the same period last year.The average weekly value of sales in October was 3.2% higher than the previous year at £5.1 billion.
