British Fashion Council ups commitment to new talent

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has appointed Sarah Mower as its first ambassador for emerging talent.

Mower, who is also a fashion journalist, will develop initiatives to increase the profiles and sales opportunities of designer businesses.

She will also chair the BFC Newgen’s committee, which is sponsored by Topshop and gives business support to new design talent.

Mower said: “I’m honoured to be asked to take up this role on behalf of emerging designers. I’m delighted to put myself at their service to help project that incredible energy and originality at home and internationally. It’s a tough economy, but I believe the inspired and beautifully made clothes our designers are producing now gives young London [designers] an opportunity to shine.”

The appointment is part of a wider restructuring at the BFC. Andrew Tucker will remain a BFC Talent Scout.
