PPR confirms Alexander McQueen brand will live on

PPR, the parent company of Gucci Group, has confirmed in the last few minutes that it will continue to trade the Alexander McQueen label, following the tragic death of the designer last week.

PPR chairman and chief executive Francois Henri-Pinault paid tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen this morning ahead of a conference call around PPR’s results.

In reference to the brand he said simply, “You understand, the Alexander McQueen trademark will live on”.

He described the British designer as a “pure genius” and a “poet” who was “imaginative and original”.

He said: “His art went beyond the fashion world. He had a great command of technique…he hid behind an armour of provocation.”

“Fashion has lost one of its extraordinary people.”

“He was one of the falling stars that comes across our generation.”

“He is a person we will miss enormously.”

Gucci Group president and chief executive Robert Polet added: “We believe in the future of the brand. Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I.”

A McQueen collection will be presented during Paris Fashion Week, the group confirmed.

Gucci Group bought a 51% stake in the Alexander McQueen label in 2001.
