Smythson considers sale

Luxury handbag and leather goods firm Smythson has appointed advisers with a view to a potential sale of the business.

Smythson, which sells handbags, purses and other leather accessories, has appointed Cavendish Corporate Finance after receiving several expressions of interest for the business, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The company, whose creative director is Samantha Cameron, wife of the Conservative Party leader David Cameron, was bought for £16 million in 2005 by a consortium led by Goldman Sachs banker Mike Sherwood.

Smythson’s sales are expected to be around £20 million for the year to March 2009.
