Adam Jagger, 28
Premium menswear buyer, Asos
Adam Jagger has his sights set high after joining Asos in December 2008 as premium menswear buyer. Jagger cut his teeth at York-based indie Sarah Coggles, where he started as a Saturday boy and moved up the business to become head of retail.
“Working with the late Victoria Bage and with owner Mark Bage was the perfect training ground for me and I am so proud that we won three separate awards at the Drapers Awards in 2006, including Best Retailer of the Year,” he says.
Asos is proving to be a steep learning curve for Jagger, learning the disciplines of a much larger business. But he says: “You can’t expect to achieve things overnight. It’s way down the line as I’m still learning so much, but I’d like to be able to develop enough to get ‘head of’ in my job title on day.”
Sarah Coggles owner Mark Bage says: “Retailing and buying is in Adam’s DNA. But it is sheer hard work that has got Adam to where he is now. He is really passionate about working with young designers – but one of his strengths is that he can see what is fashionable and what is commercial, and that’s a really difficult thing to do.”
