Andy Marsh, 30

Head of retail, north, Select

Part of a family of retailers, and with Fosters, Gap, Hawkshead, The Officer’s Club, Blacks Leisure and Moss Bros on his CV before joining Select as head of retail, north, in November 2009, Andy Marsh has been piling on the retail operations experience.

At Moss Bros, where he was named a Rising Star by Drapers’ sister title Retail Week, he moved through the ranks including roles as regional controller, working in the outlet stores division and in premium brands division.

“I’m proud of the progress I made at Moss Bros, charging out success three years in a row with improving like for likes,” he says.

“By the age of 30 I wanted to be a head of retail, and I have achieved that – and I want to go through to a directorship of retail operations and eventually to managing director.

“But, you can only ever be as successful as the people who work with you – so selecting and maintaining the people around you is crucial – they will take you and themselves forward in their careers.”

Select managing director David Pidgeon says: “Andy has a maturity about him that belies his age and he handles his seniority well. I expect that in the future he could take on a lot more – board level in a decent sized business.”
