Award-winning David Koma, who was born in Georgia and had studied fashion before coming to the UK, moved to London in 2003 where he entered Central St Martin’s (CSM), gaining both a BA and MA in womenswear fashion, and winning best womenswear collection in 2007.
Koma also picked up the Harrods Design Award in 2009, in association with CSM ,and the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award in September 2009.
His collection, which uses metal and plastic on architectural body-conscious shapes, has already been picked by London boutique Brown’s Focus, and hit the celebrity big time when Beyoncé wore one of his designs for the MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin and Cheryl Cole wore one of his dresses on ITV’s The X Factor last autumn. Lady Gaga has also worn his designs.
