Lauren Berg, 29
Senior product developer, Karen Millen
Fast learning Lauren Berg decided on a career in fashion after a degree in media production. With a short course studying fabrics and yarns at London College of Fashion under her belt, she had at spell at supplier 7Cell followed by over three years at Pink Soda where she became product co-ordinator.
The plum job as a product developer at Aurora Fashions’ Karen Millen, where she now works as senior product developer on casual leather and soft categories, came next.
Berg says: “I’ve learned on my feet and that’s proved to be a brilliant background to what I’m doing now. I always want to stay working closely with product because I love working with our designers and suppliers and visualising how the product is going to work.”
Berg is conscious that, despite her own fast moves up the career ladder, there is a lot of competition for the best jobs in fashion. But, she says: “If you stick at it and persevere you can learn all the skills you need to on the job.”
Charlie Van Emden, manager of buying and merchandising at Fashion Personnel, says: “Lauren is a team player with strong communication and negotiating skills. But she has also been ambitious enough to get to where she is at Karen Millen. She is good at adapting to new situations and perseveres.”
